What Is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency may include:

  • Injury to one or more teeth
  • A chipped or broken tooth
  • The falling out of a filling or tooth
  • A severe or sudden toothache
  • Development of abscess or infection
  • Broken braces or orthodontic wires

Severe toothache is the most common dental emergency that we treat. A toothache can be so miserable that you may not be able to go about your daily activities. When a troublesome tooth prevents you from working, accomplishing necessary tasks, and meeting your everyday responsibilities, we know that you need help – and fast. That’s why we’ll make your emergency a priority. We offer same-day emergency dental care.

What Should I Do in a Dental Emergency?

If you suspect that you are dealing with an emergency situation, please do not ignore it. We recommend that you remain calm and immediately call us at our office.

If a tooth has broken, try to collect and save any and all broken pieces. Similarly, if a tooth has been knocked out, try and retrieve it.

In the event that a filling or crown has fallen off of a restored tooth, please do not be alarmed. While a filling or crown may last many years, an older restoration may loosen and eventually dislodge from the tooth. Please save the crown or filling piece if you are able and bring it with you to your emergency dental appointment.
